Galaxy is a pendant lamp featuring an inner black semi-sphere made of PA66+30% GF; cover in turned and 3D laser-cut aluminum sheet; extruded aluminum rods; CNC-machined aluminum heat sink.
The Galaxy lamp evolves to meet new market demands with a larger version, ideal for spacious environments.
Following the launch of the Galaxy pendant lamp by Charles and Ray Eames in 2024, Cassina proposes a larger version, approximately 20% bigger, available in the same matt black, matt white or polished aluminium finishes, in response to the market’s interest in the piece for large domestic and contract spaces.
The lamp’s 36 stems, with customised LED light sources, that extend outwards from the central sphere, have each been lengthened by 10 cm and now measure 25, 40 and 55 cm. Like the former version, it maintains the simple to construct 'plug & play' system, meaning that it is delivered dismantled in reduced and efficient packaging compared to the dimensions of the product itself.
First presented by Charles and Ray Eames at "An Exhibition for Modern Living" that took place at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1949, the Galaxy pendant lamp was made in the prototype shop at the Eames Office from automotive components and different sized brass tubes, inserted into a sphere made from a wooden ball.
